Death Throes of Right to Privacy?

This article discusses electronically “chipping” human beings. Is this in our near future? What will it mean to our right to privacy? How long are we safe?

I have to be leery about a technology that is still in its infancy, as the VeriChip is:

• There are always going to be hackers, or in the case of stealing your identity directly from your chip, spoofers (and stolen rather easily).
• A person’s data is downloaded from the internet; again, hackers come to mind. In the wake of big-name companies (including in the banking industry, where you’d think they’d go to extra lengths to protect your personal and other information), having data lost or stolen, how can anyone really feel certain that their identity will not be stolen? Will the person whose identity or other information has been stolen then become a non-person?
• Even if, say, criminals are implanted, they’re criminals for piss sake, they’ll remove their own chip and replace it with a stolen one in order to continue their criminal activity.

Go watch Fortress and tell me AGAIN why you think VeriChips are a good idea, Mr. Corporate America With My Hand In Your Wallet. Sure, they don’t use chips but “intestinators,” but it’s all the same shit, just in a different package.
